About
Real therapy requires a real relationship.
You are capable, self-aware and have probably already tried to fix this. Maybe you've read the books, done the meditation, even tried therapy before. And yet something persists - a pattern in your relationships, a quiet sense of not-enough beneath the success, an anxiety that won't fully resolve no matter what you do.
This is not a willpower problem. It is not something you can think your way out of. And it is exactly the kind of work I do.
I am Remi Abolafia, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and psychoanalytic candidate at the American Institute for Psychoanalysis (AIP). I work with individuals and couples in New York and New Jersey using a psychodynamic framework - which means we go beneath the surface. We look at the patterns, the history and the unconscious processes that are quietly running the show. Not to pathologize them, but to understand them. Because when you understand the root, the symptoms stop needing to be managed.
My clinical background includes work at Bellevue Hospital and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, where I supported patients and families through some of the most profound experiences of their lives. That work shaped my belief that real change happens not through technique alone, but through relationship.
I see individuals (16+) and couples in person and telehealth.
